Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz Celebrate Being ‘Rich as Fuck’ By Rapping Without a Beat

Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz

Lil Wayne has been collaborating with just about everyone the past few days. 2 Chainz has been collaborating with just about everyone for at least the past year. Including Wayne himself, much to his own avowed embarrassment, in the box-of-rocks-dumb hook to 2 Chainz’ Based on a T.R.U. Story album opener, “Yuck.” The rapper formerly known as Tity Boi returns the favor with his own hook that doesn’t exactly show off rapping prowess on Weezy’s new “Rich as Fuck” (via IllRoots), only this time you’re much likelier to want to shout along.

With lurching, minimalist production by Kendrick Lamar’s “Swimming Pools (Drank)” mastermind T-Minus, the song gives Lil Tunechi plenty of space for his increasingly limited set of tics. Eighties-baby pop-cultural references? Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and All Dogs Go to Heaven, check. Proof Wayne does drugs? “Xanax, percosets, promethazine with codeine,” check. Blunt anatomical humor? “R.I.P., rest in pussy,” check. But when the beat cuts out entirely right before 2 Chainz hollers the title phrase, nothing else matters, and 2013 has a clear contender for heavy radio rotation. Wayne gets to spit a cappella briefly at the end, too, which would certainly make this one of Top 40’s weirder potential hits lately.

When not sitting for the ridiculous tattoo seen in the photo above, Weezy has been rapping with Timbaland, T-Pain, Missy Elliott, Drake, Future, his fellow former Hot Boys members, even Paris Hilton. “Rich as Fuck” ought to make its way onto Wayne’s upcoming I Am Not a Human Being II album, expected later this year.

And if you want to know what Wayne might be doing next year, well, a lot of blogs are buzzing about the fact that his name is listed here as a voice actor in a planned 2014 Pixar animated film called The Good Dinosaur. Though this would be amazing, we should stress it’s still at the totally unsubstantiated rumor level at this point. That said, Wayne’s voice has always been perfectly suited for a cartoon critter of some kind, and rap allusions to The Land Before Time or Jurassic Park would definitely be up his alley. Hold onto your butts.
