Frank Ocean Will Get His ‘Pink Matter’ OutKast Reunion

It’s a big week for a Big Boi. Not only has the Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors mastermind dropped the video for his ratchet-ass Atlanta-repping single “In the A,” he’s announced that he’ll be recording vocals for a new version of Frank Ocean’s “Pink Matter.” The original recording of the song — found on SPIN’s Album of the Year, channel ORANGE — features General Patton’s former OutKast compatriot André 3000. But as Big Boi claimed back in July, it was supposed to feature both of the ATLiens.

But Andre recently demonstrated an ongoing interest in his old pal’s career in an interview with SPIN, and kinda sorta apologized to him via a guest verse on T.I.’s “Sorry.” And over the weekend, Big Boi updated his Tumblr with a photo of some in-progress lyrics, explaining simply, “Dropping a verse on this Frank Ocean ‘Pink Matter.'” Consequence of Sound confirmed that the redux will come out some time next week.

Adding further fuel to the anticipatory fires, Daddy Fat Sax hopped on Twitter today to add:

While it’s unclear whether that’s an official confirmation of a collaboration, T.I. and Big Boi do go toe to toe in the above video for “In the A,” which also features Ludacris. The proudly Georgian trio are fierce in the new clip, which features appropriately localized footage courtesy of director Alexi Papalexopoulos (he of the risqué “She Said OK” short). While two-thirds of this news stokes hope for the possibility of a legit OutKast reunion, we’d settle for a collaborative album from any combination of the five leading men mentioned above.
