If Dave Grohl gets his way, his mind-boggling Sound City Players supergroup will be playing shows in New York, London, and Sydney, among possible others, this year. That lineup would hopefully include Stevie Nicks and John Fogerty, Grohl told SPIN during an interview at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, on Saturday morning. He was discussing the band’s debut performance Friday night when he mentioned future “shows.” Plural?

“New York, London, Sydney,” he said. The Sound City Players — which also include Rick Springfield, Cheap Trick’s Rick Nielsen, Fear’s Lee Ving, and the remaining members of Nirvana, among others — have one confirmed show on the horizon, at the Hollywood Palladium on January 31. “I realize it’s crazy that I’m asking Stevie and Fogerty to go on the road with me, but I think they had fun last night, and everyone’s been so enthusiastic. It really is a once-in-a-lifetime thing.”

Grohl led the group through a three-and-a-half-hour extravaganza that was heavy on the hits recorded by his onstage collaborators. The musicians came together initially to share their memories about the titular L.A.-area studio featured in the head Foo Fighter’s Sound City documentary, which premiered at Sundance earlier on Friday. They also recorded an album’s worth of new songs together: Sound City — Real to Reel.

While the cast of Players rotated throughout the performance — others included Chris Goss (Masters of Reality), Corey Taylor (Slipknot), Brad Wilk (Rage Against the Machine), Alain Johannes (Queens of the Stone Age) and Jessy Greene (Geraldine Fibbers) — Grohl stayed onstage the entire time, and was usually accompanied by the Foo Fighters in various configurations, despite the fact that the band has been on hiatus.

“I’m the luckiest person in the world that I have the Foo Fighters,” said Grohl, “because everybody in the band is so talented and so ready to go. So when I call and say, ‘Hey, I know that we’re taking a break right now, but we need to learn 50 songs in the next 10 days and we’re gonna go and do shows all over the world,’ they just go, ‘Okaaaaay.'” As previously explained, recent reports of the Foos’ death were greatly exaggerated.
