Chief Keef has been sent to jail after a Chicago judge found that he has indeed violated probation. This latest development is most likely the anticipated fallout from a video interview that the 17-year-old did with Pitchfork at a gun range. The rapper born Keith Cozart was originally charged for pointing a gun at a police officer back in December of 2011 and as a result was legally required to avoid firearms (plus drugs and gangs) for an 18-month period.
While Chicago Sun-Times reports this latest development, they do not explain the source of the parole violation. However, it was recently reported by HipHopDX that Cozart’s previously scheduled January 28 hearing for the matter of the gun range interview was pushed up to January 15, and that his management was concerned that “prosecutors’ willingness to move the date forward could signal their confidence that Keef in fact violated his probation.”
As reported earlier this month, Cozart dodged a return trip to lockup after rumors arose that he’d secretly moved residence to the suburb of Northbrook, Illinois. Finding no “credible evidence” of that being true — with Keef’s attorney claiming that he’s been recording at his manager’s house in that neighborhood — the judge dismissed the accusation on January 2. It’s also been alleged that the teen failed to attain a GED by a previously determined court deadline.
