Last year’s Academy Awards ceremony skipped over musical performances altogether. This year, none other than Adele will take the stage to sing her Oscar-nominated theme song from Skyfall, the show’s organizers have announced.
The British soul-pop queen, who won a Golden Globe for “Skyfall” and is separately nominated for a Grammy, will be performing the song for the first time live, as the Hollywood Reporter notes. She’ll also be singing on U.S. TV for the first time since last year’s Grammys, where she dominated by taking home seven awards and staged her first epic return to the stage after throat surgery. The reason for the deep-lunged singer’s absence from the limelight this time around, of course, is the recent birth of her baby son, (who may be named Angelo, if the tabs are to be believed).
The 85th Academy Awards take place on February 24 at the Dolby Theatre at the Hollywood & Highland Center and will be broadcast on ABC with host Seth MacFarlane. “Skyfall,” written by Adele and producer Paul Epworth, marks the first Oscar nomination for a James Bond theme since 1981’s “For Your Eyes Only.” If Adele’s previous award-show performances are any indication, her singing will probably be more than worthy of the occasion. (MacFarlane’s awkward nomination-show hosting aside, we mean that as a compliment. Really!)
