M83 Complete Fantastic Video Trilogy With Sci-Fi ‘Wait’

M83's 'Wait'

“Wait,” from M83’s late-2011 double album Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming, starts out as a relatively understated track on an album of outsize granduer. As the orchestral accompaniment tesselates across main man Anthony Gonzalez’ wispy vocals, though, those gentle acoustic guitar strums sound more and more like the ones Coldplay’s “Yellow” and Snow Patrol’s “Run” took from intimate clubs to huge arenas. The song’s video follows a maximalist approach from the start, opening with planets in space among tiny floating pyramids. Directors Fleur & Manu also helmed the album’s previous videos for “Midnight City” and “Reunion,” and this clip, released in partnership with the Creators Project, is billed as the last installment in that trilogy. With wolves, children, and a psychedelic freakout recalling 2001: A Space Odyssey, it’s majestically evocative even if we still aren’t quite sure what it means. Which might be a fitting coda to Hurry Up‘s inarticulable emotional hugeness.
