See Tomahawk Carve Out ‘Stone Letter’ in Raw New Video

Tomahawk Stone Letter Video Mike Patton

The new video for Tomahawk’s “Stone Letter” is decidedly no-frills, but none are needed where these four men are concerned. Lest you be caught unawares come January 29 — when the band’s long-awaited fourth album and first in six years, Oddfellows, is released — this supergroup’s membership breaks down thusly: Mike Patton (Faith No More, Mr. Bungle), Duane Denison (The Jesus Lizard, Silver Jews), John Stanier (Battles, Helmet) and Trevor Dunn (Melvins Lite, Fantômas). That’s a whole lotta rawk for an alt-metalhead to geek out over, and the band’s gnashing new single is plenty to take in all on its own.

SPIN premiered “Stone Letter” in early October, and the song received a limited release for Record Store Day’s Black Friday event. It will also hit iTunes on December 4 — and Tomahawk have scheduled a handful of dates for 2013 — but for now, watching these fiends carve out “Stone Letter” in the above clip will have to suffice. The Vincent Forcier-directed video combines recent live footage with shots of a studio session and, well, that’s about it. You may want it all but, for now at least, you just can’t have it.
