See Alt-J Crush ‘Breezeblocks’ on ‘Jools Holland’

Alt-J Breezeblocks Jools Holland Video

Rising electronic folk ‘n’ b concern Alt-J stopped by BBC Two’s Later… with Jools Holland yesterday to, in the parlance of our times, handily crush a live rendition of their hypnotic single “Breezeblocks.” In the video above, singer Joe Newman stoically delivers his surprisingly smooth mumble-slur, his voice coasting in and out of the stormy instrumentation and copious harmonies provided by the British band. It’s a stunner of a performance that ads heft to Jim James’ praise of Alt-J in a July interview with SPIN: “I saw them play in Germany at one of the festivals we played [and] it kind of gave me this good, foreboding feeling. It was like seeing one of the great bands very young.” And if you haven’t yet seen it, treat yourself to the video of “Tessellate,” another fantastic single from Alt-J’s Mercury Prize-nominated album An Awesome Wave.
