The Replacements Doc ‘Color Me Obsessed’ Heads to DVD

'Color Me Obsessed: A Film About the Replacements'

A documentary about the Replacements and their diehard fans will soon be available to watch in your living room. Color Me Obsessed: A Film About the Replacements hits DVD on November 20 via MVD Entertainment Group. The two-disc set will include six hours of extras from the film, about the Minnesota rockers SPIN once called “the last best band of the ’80s.”

Color Me Obsessed debuted at film festivals and art houses last year, so the DVD release opens the ‘Mats doc up a potentially much wider audience. The movie is billed as (deep breath) “the potentially true story of the most influential, always drunk, self-destructive, and yet frighteningly brilliant rock band of all time as told through the eyes of their fans, followers, and fellow musicians.” Among the more than 140 interviews drawn on for the film are discussions with Tommy Ramone, Hüsker Dü’s Grant Hart and Greg Norton, the Decemberists’ Colin Meloy, and the Hold Steady’s Craig Finn.

As for DVD extras, expect 19 deleted scenes, two commentary tracks, four trailers, and behind-the-scenes interviews with director Gorman Bechard and producer Hansi Oppenheimer. The DVD also comes with three full interviews: with Hart, with New York music critic Robert Christgau, and with Chicago music critics Greg Kot and Jim DeRogatis.
