In the new video for “Age” by British folk ‘n’ soul chanteuse Lianne La Havas, the absorbing 23-year-old prepares for a picnic date with a classy octogenarian who seems to be having the time of his life. And why wouldn’t he? La Havas is the embodiment of youth and beauty, and a talented songwriter whose knack runs the gamut from angular art-rock a la St. Vincent to breezy cafe numbers a la early Feist. “Age” is of the latter ilk, and takes a playful tack to cross-generational relations. The perfectly matched video come courtesy of the Yours Truly camp, who typically specialize in intimate live sessions, and the song hails from La Havas’ largely unsung July debut, Is Your Love Big Enough?, an LP recorded in Los Angeles with help from Aqualung’s Matt Hales.
This clip was also filmed in L.A., and the older gentleman is the city’s beloved Reggae Pops, who’s famous for coming to shows and swiping folks’ girlfriends for a quick dance. (He’s danced with La Havas before, too.) In addition to a tour with John Legend and a few headlining gigs (dates below), the singer is looking forward to TV appearances on Craig Ferguson and Caron Daly’s shows.
