Having run out of ways to net himself headlines — shilling for the wrestling industry, dating Tila Tequila, getting culty, and dissing new bands, old bands and even his old band — Billy Corgan is opening a tea room. It’s called Madame ZuZu’s, of course, and it opens on Thursday in Highland Park, Chicago. Moby sends regards!

“I’m a tea guy,” said the Smashing Pumpkins singer via statement. “I’ve always wanted to open a salon like this for everyone to enjoy. This is a place with no age boundaries. We hope to attract everyone from young students to seniors. With a blend of music, photo galleries, art displays and speakers, I think Madame ZuZu’s offers something for everyone.”

Speakers! Also promised: a 1930s Bösendorfer upright piano imported from Finland, a rotating menu of teas from around the world, and “light vegan pastries from all spheres,” which we can only assume means from each of the other planets occupying our Solar System, or perhaps from further dimensions thatonly Corgan can access. All of this is both completely unexpected and also not surprising at all.

In keeping with his plan to, as the press release states, “bring cultural experience to the North Shore,” Corgan will be celebrating his new venture’s grand opening by playing a handful of acoustic sessions throughout the day starting at 11 a.m. And yes, of course, before you ask, there will be free tea. More info on Madame Zuzu’s Parisian-style, Chinoise-inspired salon can be found here.
