Reunited Grandaddy Preview Outside Lands Set at Warmup Gigs

After a six-year hiatus, spacey indie rockers Grandaddy reunited earlier this year and played their first show together earlier this week in California. At the first gig in Merced, they performed under the alias Arm of Roger and played a mix of songs that focused heavily on their high-water marks 2000’s The Sophtware Slump and 2003’s Sumday. And at both the Merced show and the one they played at Big Sur’s Henry Miller Library, they pulled out a deep cut from their self-released 2000 compilation, The Windfall Varietal, titled “Fare Thee Not Well Mutineer.” We’ve posted video from those shows (via Consequence of Sound) below to give a preview of what the band might sound like when they play their first “official” concert at San Francisco’s Outside Lands fest this weekend.

“It’s still a bit surreal to me, to tell you the truth,” said vocalist-guitarist-keyboardist Jason Lytle about the reunion in a recent interview with MTV Hive (as you can see, he is still rocking the trucker hat). “It wasn’t until we got done with the first set of rehearsals, that I was like, Thank God I’m not driving [home] going, What the fuck have I gotten myself into here? It’s actually really fun and it sounded really good. At this point, I’m really excited about it.”
