Watch Children of the Night’s Lustrous ‘Kids From Queens’ Video

Children of the Night’s mixtape Queens…Revisited pays throat-clearing tribute to their home borough and its legendary hip-hop traditions. Right there in their mixtape title is an acknowledgement that this trio walk over ground already paved by legends like Mobb Deep, Nas, and Run-DMC (just to name a few). But placing nostalgia front and center allows the group to keep it moving and take part in a burgeoning New York rap scene that includes Action Bronson, Das Racist, Meyhem Lauren, and many more. In the video for “Kids From Queens,” rappers Lansky, Remy Banks, and Nasty Nigel dignify the stark imagery of classic Queens rap videos. Shots of a backyard BBQ and gritty locales are mixed with those of iconic landmarks that even the most entry-level hip-hop herb can identify (Citi Field, the Unisphere from every old Queens video), and it’s all given a refined and noble luster — as if the iconic opening of Woody Allen’s Manhattan bounced over a few boroughs. Shout out to that close-up of the summer grilling staple: a big bag of Martin’s Potato Rolls (and legendary Queens producer Large Professor manning the grill!) And look out for a cameo from Das Racist associate Lakutis [a guest on Queens…Revisited‘s “Ellis (12:06 AM)” along with Big Baby Gandhi] and a mind-bogglingly adorable kid mouthing the words to Lansky’s verse and chowing down on a burger a few scenes later.
