Metric’s May 18th show at Le National in Montreal wasn’t remarkable just because it was the quartet’s first live run-through of new album Synthetica before they headed off to Sasquatch! “We gave away all the tickets for free, bussed in fans from outlying towns, and we asked everyone to refrain from filming or recording because it was before the release,” frontwoman Emily Haines tells SPIN. The most remarkable part? “Everyone obliged!”
To mark Synthetica‘s arrival (it’s out today via iTunes), the band is debuting footage shot by Parceque Films from that special gig, giving fans who weren’t lucky enough to not-camera-phone the show a peek at how high emotions were running as they played “Youth Without Youth” for the first time. Haines admits the video captures the band in a heightened emotional state. “We are a small organization aiming high,” she says. “Every moment counts.”
