Watch Drake Acknowledge ‘Degrassi’ Past By Doing the ‘Wheelchair Jimmy’ Dance

Drake

When Drake burst onto the scene with his 2010 LP Thank Me Later, a lot of people mused, “Wait … I know that guy. His face is so familiar, and somehow reminds me of after-school specials.” That was because Drake notoriously began his entertainment career in Canadian television, starring as high school basketball-star-turned-school-shooting-victim Jimmy Brooks on the reboot show Degrassi: The Next Generation, in which he is confined to a wheelchair in the show’s fourth season as a result of a bullying plot line.

Lovingly referred to by anyone who was ever sucked into a summer Degrassi marathon as “Wheelchair Jimmy,” the character has been more or less dead to the world ever since Drake, known back then by his birthname Aubrey Graham, decided being a hip-hop artist probably had better perks. But now, Wheelchair Jimmy hath returned! A video of the rapper’s March 7 show at UC Davis has surfaced (via RapDose) in which he debuts the “Wheelchair Jimmy” dance move — a choice we’re not sure anti-ableist activists will be too happy about, but it delighted the nostalgic college crowd, who went bonkers. Just imagine what the Wheelchair Jimmy looks like when performed, à la Electric Slide, en masse at a club.

Drake will have plenty more chances to atone for his Degrassi denial on the road this spring and summer. The video for Drake’s Rihanna collab “Take Care” drops *today,* too, so stick around.
