La Blogothèque has (finally) shared the Soirée de Poche (Pocket Party, or Takeaway Show, depending on how you’re translating) they filmed with Sharon Van Etten last fall in a Parisian apartment. Is there a better way to follow up your first look at Blue Ivy Carter? We think not.

Accompanied by multi-instrumentalist Heather Woods Broderick on vocals, Van Etten plays "Give Out," "All I Can," "One Day," and "Love More" for a cross-legged audience, all seated in front of a roaring fire. It’s incredibly intimate, quiet, sad, yet altogether gripping, just like the album she released this week, Tramp (her first full-length via Jagjaguwar). The room is filled with few people, most of whom don’t seem to expect much in-between song banter (considering the amount of English spoken in the room), and as a result, Van Etten seems more at ease than she has seemed at larger, sold-out clubs, thus fully realizing the power in her songs. It’s gut-wrenching.

But then, after 20 minutes, just when you think you might cry, the credits roll, during which she and Broderick lead a singalong to "You’ve Really Got a Hold on Me," and all is lightened again.The aesthetic of this video encapsulates exactly how Sharon Van Etten’s music should be experienced: it feels like being let in on a truly special secret, like sleepover confessions you used to make with your best friend when you were a kid.
