First Spin: Download FIDLAR’s Surfy ‘No Waves’

L.A. garage punks FIDLAR are quintessential SoCal skate brats. Lo-fi production, head-banging riffs, (insanely infectious) songs called "Wake Bake Skate," and of course, a Facebook page where their bio begins with the words, "FIDLAR are slackers at heart." Following the release of their first 7" DIYDUI (White Iris) last year, the quartet signed to Mom+Pop Music, where they’ll join Andrew Bird, Neon Indian, and our latest SPIN cover stars Sleigh Bells. Their new 7", unsurprisingly named No Waves/No Ass, is due March 13.

Their name — an acronym for "Fuck It Dog, Life’s a Risk" — pretty much does our work for us, but we’ll give it a shot anyway: FIDLAR channel elements of classic acts like the White Stripes and Pixies, while practically begging for a co-headlining tour with contemporaries like Bass Drum of Death and JEFF the Brotherhood (the latter of whom we recently caught when they stopped by Death By Audio in Brooklyn). FIDLAR live shows are sweaty, shirtless, and generally intoxicated; download (and headbang at your desk to) the A-side of No Waves/No Ass, "No Waves," below, to see if their recordings measure up (we think they do).
