Crystal Castles Unleash Gothy ‘Suffocation’ Video

Crystal Castles Suffocation Video

Alice Glass’ demon-possessed stage presence has long helped set Crystal Castles apart from other fuzzy electronic pop duos. In the new “fashion video” for “Suffocation,” a typically haunted, screechy head-pounder from the Canadian band’s second self-titled album, Glass is an unusually subdued presence, donning — and, yes, Carles, removing — various pieces of clothing we probably can’t afford.

Crystal Castles beatmaker Ethan Kath directs the clip, evidently shot at an abandoned New York City mansion, and he also makes a brief cameo (he’s the dude in the hoodie). The whole thing’s spook-tacular and all, especially that random doctor’s visit, but it’s still a better bet catching these two live sometime, where Glass’ writhing, shrieking presence underscores why Crystal Castles would catch the eye of people with a fashion-video budget in the first place. Where’s Vincent Price when you need him?
