The Red Bull Music Academy is an annual, traveling series of workshops and festivals aimed at shaping the future of music. For 2011, the Academy is on a 10-city world tour, hopping from happening spots like Paris and Detroit, pushing the musical envelope with concerts, art installations, workshops, and so much more.

SPIN editorial director Charles Aaron scoured the Academy’s archives, which are full of creations collected since the project launched in 1998, to bring you this 10-song playlist of some serious gems. Included are SPIN favorites like Flying Lotus and Africa Hitech, who are joined by some lesser known but definitely awesome producers and artists. Give the playlist a listen here and stick it out until the end for the “sexy” house/techno jams, which Aaron said are perfect if “you’re trying to pick somebody up after an incense-heavy poetry reading.” Noted!
