  • Another track from Björk‘s hotly anticipated iPad album Biophilia has hit the web. The latest track is the gorgeous, acoustic track “Moon.” Hear it below; the album is out September 27.

    Mississippi-based MC Big K.R.I.T has released a second mixtape, following his March release Return of 4Eva.Last King 2: God’s Machine is a twenty-track set featuring guest spots from UGK, Wiz Khalifa, and Yelawolf. Pick it up here. The rapper’s major label debut, Live From the Underground, is due out on September 27.

  • Jerry Leiber — one half of the legendary songwriting team Lieber and Stoller — died from cardio-pulmonary failure on August 22 in Los Angeles. He was 78. Along with partner Mike Stoller, the late lyricist penned some of the earliest and most classic songs in the rock’n’roll canon, including “Hound Doug,” “Yakety Yak,” and “Stand By Me.” [New York Times]

  • Spank Rock, The Death Set, Pictureplane, and Big Freedia will all perform on select dates of the Check Yo Ponytail 2 party. The traveling music bash kicks off on October 20 in Los Angeles, CA and wraps up at Austin, TX’s Fun Fun Fun Fest on November 6.   • After releasing their latest album Lisbon last September,the Walkmen are back in the studio recording. The New York rockers have tapped Band of Horses and Built to Spill producer Phil Ek and the group will road-test the material this September. “15 songs survived [Ek’s] battle axe,” they tweeted.[TwentyFourBit]

  • Nick Ashford, who along with Valerie Simpson wrote some of Motown’s biggest hits (“Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” “Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing”), died on August 22 in New York City, where he was receiving treatment for throat cancer. He was 70. [New York Times]

  • To celebrate their 20th anniversary this year, Pearl Jam will be the musical guest on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon for two nights, September 8-9. Cameron Crowe — who has directed a revealing documentary on the band, set to premier on October 21 — will also appear. [Billboard]
