Gomez, ‘Whatever’s on Your Mind’ (ATO)

The title of Gomez’s seventh studio album reflects the low-key, easy-flowing attitude these boyish Brits have maintained since winning the U.K.’s coveted Mercury Prize with their 1998 debut. But given this album’s quirky, anything-goes arrangements, perhaps they should’ve called it Whatever’s on Our Mind: “The Place and the People” pairs folky acoustic guitar with a laserlike synth riff, while “Options” and “I Will Take You There” get funky disco-soul sax licks from Antibalas horn whiz Stuart Bogie.
