Memphis garage-rocker Jay Reatard died last year at the age of 29 — but thankfully he left loads of demos, LPs, EPs, and rarities behind for fans to discover and revisit.

Born James Lee Lindsey, Jr., Reatard recorded some 60 albums in his 11-year career, and the label that gave him his start, Memphis’ Goner Records, just dropped a compilation of his early releases that were previously available only on cassette. The 39-track collection, called Teenage Hate/Fuck Elvis Here’s the Reatards, is out now on Goner’s website and in select record stores. SPIN has a free download of album gem “You Build Me Up Just to Bust Me Down.” Get it below!

What do we learn here? That the young Reatard was playing the gritty punk-blues before the White Stripes used a similar sound to ignite indie rock’s garage explosion in the early aughts. And in classic Reatard style, “You Build Me Up Just to Bust Me Down” clocks in well under two minutes.
