  • Bono has opened up about the new version of U2‘s Spider-Man musical, after the play experienced a run of injury-riddled previews and underwent re-writes following the ousting of director Julie Taymor. “What was great about [the original play] was unusual and rare: magic, a pop-up Pop-Art opera with a bit of rock’n’roll circus thrown in,” he said. “What was not right about it was a catalog of commonplace problems – story knots, bad sound, and finally a failure to cohere, meaning that the whole was not greater than the sum of the parts.” The production resumed previews last week after a three-week hiatus.
