Jeff Buckley Biopic, Gucci Mane Arrested + More

  • The life of late singer Jeff Buckley will be the subject of a biopic directed by Ryan Jaffe (The Rocker). Buckley’s mother Mary Guibert will be an executive producer and the movie will feature the songwriter’s music. Buckley, who released only one studio album (1994’s Grace), died tragically from drowning at age 30 in 1997. [Deadline]

  • Gucci Mane was arrested on April 8 in Decatur, GA, after a woman came forward claming he had pushed her out of a moving vehicle back in January. The rapper (whose real name is Radric Davis) is being charged with misdemeanor battery; he is also expected to be charged with parole violation following his release from prison in May 2010 for another parole violation.   • After a string of East Coast dates for his Welcome 2 America Tour, Prince will bring the production to Los Angeles for a 21-date run at the L.A. Forum. The string of shows, which he announced on Lopez Tonight, kicks off April 14. [Lopez Tonight]

  • Jack White will issue the final White Stripes concert on limited-edition vinyl via his Third Man Records imprint. The release (recorded on July 31, 2007, in Mississippi) features covers of Robert Johnson, Son House, and Leadbelly tunes, along with live versions from the Stripes’ studio albums. White will also release the band’s earliest studio recordings on limited-edition 7-inch, and a live DVD from a June, 2000 show in Moorhead, MN.   • Britney Spears has tapped Nicki Minaj to open for her upcoming North American tour, which kicks off June 17 in Sacramento, CA. Enrique Iglasias was previously slated to open, but dropped out after contract negotiations broke down. In related news, Spears has teamed up with Rihanna for a remix of the singer’s single “S&M,” which you can hear over at Miss Info. [TMZ]

  • Tom Waits is voicing a character for an animated musical titled The Monster of Nix. The songwriter will play the role of Virgil, a “terrifying giant pitch-black swallow,” in a dark movie about a boy who battles an “all-devouring monster.” [TwentyFourBit]
