WATCH: Strokes Debut New Track on ‘SNL’

With their awesome comeback album Angles due out March 22, the Strokes dropped by Saturday Night Live this weekend to perform two tracks: lead single “Under Cover of Darkness” and “Life Is Simple in the Moonlight,” which the band debuted. Watch their performance below.

While “Undercover” found the Strokes hewing close to the tightly-wound punk of their debut Is This It, “Life Is Simple in the Moonlight” used new dynamics: it started as a brooding number, with frontman Julian Casablancas mumbling in a deep baritone, before building into hair-raising rocker, as guitarist Nick Valensi unleashed his best Tom Verlaine moves.

Of course, the impossibly cool Strokes looked as if they could care less to be there. During “Under Cover of Darkness,” Casablancas strolled around the stage, took a sip of water, and even seemed to drop the F-bomb on national TV (scan forward to the 3:59 mark.)
