Pains of Being Pure at Heart Rock ‘Late Show’

On their terrific second album, Belong, the Pains of Being Pure at Heart stepped up their shoegaze-y, twee-pop game by hiring top producers Flood and Alan Moulder. But when the Brooklyn rockers hit Letterman last night to perform standout cut “Heart in Your Heartbreak,” the Pains went back to their lo-fi ways, delivering four-and-a-half minutes of 120 Minutes-era alt-rock awesomeness. Best moment: the 25 seconds of fuzzed-out amp-death that starts at the 2:05 mark.
