Mumford, Edward Sharpe Plot Spring Train Tour

Mumford & Sons, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, and Old Crow Medicine Show are teaming up for a six-date Spring tour, but the groups are planning an unconventional method of performance and travel for the trek, dubbed the Railroad Revival Tour. The three bands will cross the Southwest via vintage railcar, and their concerts will take place in out-of-the-way locations like Chandler, AZ’s Arizona Railway Museum and San Pedro, CA’s Ports O’Call Village. Check out dates below.

Expect plenty of on-stage collaborations for the tour, which calls to mind Festival Express, the legendary 1970 trek featuring the Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin, who traveled by rail across Canada. Each band will be given equal time and the stages will be designed in a way to encourage “cross-pollination,” according to a statement.Mumford & Sons’ Winston Marshall said the inspiration for Railroad Revival came from American songwriting icon Woody Guthrie, who trailed migrant workers during the Great Depression to learn about traditional folk and blues. “Woody rode with his fellow drifters around North America; we get to do it with a bunch of other musicians, although not strangers, from different corners of the world,” Marshall said in a statement. “A dream come true to be on tour with them.”

The Railroad Revival Tour will also be filmed for an upcoming documentary and the bands’ railcars will be outfitted with studios, so expect collaborative recordings to come out of the week-long outing.

Tickets for the tour go on sale tomorrow (March 9) at 12 P.M. EST here.
