Winehouse Preps New Songs, Kills Finish LP + more

  • Amy Winehouse will debut new material onstage this month at her comeback gigs in South America, her backup singer has revealed. “Band rehearsing for Brazil tour! Get ready! New songs,” singer Zalon posted on his Twitter. The shows, which will be Winehouse’s first since 2008, kick off January 8. [NME]

  • The Kills have wrapped up recording their fourth album, which is slated for release this year. “Recorded+mixed+mastered and all that jazz,” frontman Jamie Hince posted on the band’s Facebook page. “Here’s to a new year and a new record!!!” Singer Alison Mosshart recently wrapped up a touring stint with her other band, the Dead Weather.   • Trip-hop pioneers Portishead are currently working on their fourth record, but don’t expect much more than that. “There will be no free downloads, there will be no bonus tracks, there will be no remixes, there will be no hidden footage,” member Geoff Barrow posted in a laundry list of demands on Twitter, adding there will also be “no Twitter.” It’ll be the follow-up to 2008’s Third, which nabbed the No. 3 spot on SPIN’s best-of-2008 list.   • Raphael Saadiq‘s latest will be called Stone Rollin’, and hit stores March 22. The Grammy-nominated R&B man will release the set’s first single, “Radio,” to iTunes next week.   • The StreetsMike Skinner says his fifth album Computers and Blues (out next month) will be his last. “[I don’t want to be] singing ‘Let’s Push Things Forward’ when I’m 40,” he said. The British rapper will instead focus on making his debut film, although he says “it’s not going to be a blockbuster.” [BBC]
