National’s ‘Mad’ Man Vid, PJ Harvey’s Song + More

  • Brooklyn rockers the National are currently filming a new video and the group has roped in Mad Men‘s John Slattery to appear in it, the group announced on Twitter. Check out photos of the band on-set with the actor here and here. [The National’s Twitter]

  • Leading up to the February release of her album Let England Shake, PJ Harvey will be teasing videos and songs for the album online. The latest: a three-minute short film directed by Seamus Murphy featuring the new track “The Last Living Rose.” Watch it below.
  • Tom Waits has paid tribute to Captain Beefheart, the iconic experimental rocker who passed away on Friday from complications due to multiple sclerosis. “He was like the scout on a wagon train,” Waits told The Los Angeles Times. “He was the one who goes ahead and shows the way. He was a demanding bandleader, a transcendental composer (with emphasis on the dental), up there with Ornette [Coleman], Sun Ra and Miles [Davis]. He drew in the air with a burnt stick. He described the indescribable. He’s an underground stream and a big yellow blimp.”
