Jonathan Tyler and The Northern Lights Chat with SPIN at Voodoo Fest

Retro rockers talk about bars staying open late and creating an organic sound.

During the recent Voodoo Music Experience New Orleans, artists stopped by the American Express® ZYNC ZONE, to chat with SPIN about their 2010 festival experiences and much more, among them Dallas classic rock revivalists Jonathan Tyler & the Northern Lights — watch our video interview, plus performance footage below!

According to frontman Jonathan Tyler, the Northern Lights have been having a “smorgasbord” in New Orleans where the bars stay open late, as opposed to their hometown of Dallas.

“2 A.M. came and we kept going,” he said.

Along with enjoying a few drinks, the band brought the Voodoo Fest crowd their own brand of “loud rock’n’roll” and “traditional American music” on which they forego any studio trickery, according to Tyler.

“We play all our instruments, there’s no push and play on a computer,” he said.”We play everything live and think about how it’s going to feel when we’re playing it in front of a crowd.”
