The fourth installment of SPIN’s literature-meets-music series Liner Notes found singer-songwriter Ben Folds and novelist Nick Hornby bringing their collaborative album, Lonely Avenue, to life onstage in New York City at the intimate Housing Works Bookstore Café. Watch six exclusive videos from the evening below!

The event — which raised $10,000 for Housing Works support programs for New Yorkers living with AIDS — found Folds and Hornby discussing the genesis of their album, for which Hornby wrote lyrics then sent them to Folds, who set the words to music. In a discussion moderated by SPIN deputy editor Steve Kandell, the duo talked about the stories that inspired Hornby’s lyrics, and how Folds decided where to take each song musically.
