Rock snapped this pic at the Dorchester Hotel during a press junket for Bowie. It's one of the few times the three have ever been shot together. Rock's cover shot for Queen II would go on to inspire the trippy video for "Bohemian Rhapsody." Rock's inspiration for the image came from old photos of actresses like Marlene Dietrich. " She was a master of posing and these guys were not," says Rock. "They were absolutely amateur but Freddie [Mercury] got excited and got the others into my idea." Rock caught this snap of Madonna before she'd even cut a record. A mutual friend had brought the then-unknown artist to Rock's studio space. "I didn't think much about it when I took a few snaps," says Rock. "It was before she got a grip of the game and image. This is very unmanicured, very raw Madonna."
