LISTEN: Unreleased Song from Soundgarden

Soundgarden made a splashy return this past weekend, headlining Lollapalooza (read SPIN’s review), but they’ve also got a new career-spanning collection called Telephantasm due out September 28, featuring “Black Rain,” a previously unreleased song. Hear it below!

Culled from the sessions for 1991’s Badmotorfinger, “Black Rain” is vintage (if unsurprising) Soundgarden, with Chris Cornell’s piercing howl raging unbridled atop Kim Thayil’s meat-grinder guitars. The song is set to hit radio stations tomorrow (Aug. 10), but, surprisingly, the song didn’t find its way onto the band’s setlist at either Lollapalooza or their Thursday night warm-up show in Chicago.

Telephantasm will emerge in various formats on September 28, ranging from a 12-song album bundled with the latest version of Guitar Hero to a “super deluxe edition” that bundles a CD/DVD combo with three discs of heavy vinyl and special collector’s packaging. Get the full details here.
