After a year full of financial woes and struggles, initial rehearsals for the new Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, featuring music by Bono and the Edge, are finally underway and producers are hoping for a November opening date, the New York Times reports.

The Julie Taymor-directed (The Lion King, Across The Universe) Spider-Man is one of the most expensive musicals ever staged, costing a whopping $50 million, the Times reports. The preview performances were set to begin this past February, but the show’s producers had trouble raising the cash needed and were forced to postpone.

Reeve Carney (of the rock band Carney) plays the web-slinger Peter Parker and is swinging from building to building with excitement.

“Wow, man, I can’t wait for the world to see this thing… It’s finally happening!” the actor/musician tweeted. “I honestly can’t believe I’m getting paid to do things my mom would have killed me for when I was a kid! Ha!”

Looks like after all this turmoil and the willingness to stick with production, one thing is clear — Peter Parker must be a huge U2 fan, eh?

Last June, Bono and the Edge sat down for a video interview regarding the musical. Watch it here. More info regarding the Spider-Man (including a taste of the music) can be found at the show’s website.
