Terrific Twitter Trio of the Week: Siren Fest Edition!

100715-follow-friday.jpg

Lots of musicians tweet — but all that Twitters is not gold.

That’s why you’ll want to check out SPIN.com every Friday to see whose tweets we’re reading this week — then update your TweetDeck! (Obligatory Self-Promotion: …while you’re at it, be sure to follow @SPINmagazine!)

In honor of this weekend’s Siren Music Festival, we’re following some of the bands who are bringing their music to Saturday’s Coney Island fiesta. Check ’em out:

  • Matt & Kim
    @mattandkim

    Why You Should Follow: We’ve been longtime followers of this Brooklyn duo’s tweets — and their Twitpics of post-concert confetti messes and conversations with nature. Expect plenty of tales of misadventure — like the time Kim lost a filling while flossing or the time they encountered a loose zebra on an Atlanta highway. Bonus points: They often interact with fans via tweets, asking them for recommendations on where to shop, what to eat, and how to avoid boredom during long bus rides. Go ahead and tweet at them — you might be lucky enough to get a tweet back (like the guy who streaked at a Matt & Kim show and was arrested, prompting them to tweet at him “FREE THE STREAKER”).

    Best Tweet of the Week: “Attn business owners: just put Male and Female on your bathroom doors, I don’t know what this Horse picture means.”

  • Holy Fuck
    @holyfuck

    Why You Should Follow: This innovative Toronto-based electronica band isn’t interested in using Twitter to record their witty observations and tour shenanigans. Instead, they use it to spread news about upcoming shows and DJ appearances and thank their supportive fans (especially the ones who edit their Wikipedia page). They also use it as a means of communicating with locals as they tour (“Any curious landmarks we should see on our drive from L.A. to Denver? A Dunkin’ Donuts with a mysterious Virgin Mary donut or something?”) and settling debates between band members (“Hey friends, heated hotel room debate, we need your help. Putting your coffee grounds down the drain: good or bad?”). Look out for occasional Twitpics, like this one of the crowd at their performance at England’s Glastonbury Festival and this one of the band outside of L.A.’s Amoeba Music.

    Best Tweet of the Week: “If we had a nickel for every time goddamn piano tuning cut into our soundcheck…”

  • Harlem
    @HarlemWhateverr

    Why You Should Follow: This Texas-based garage rock band just released their second album, Hippies, in April, and they’ve been living a carefree, rock’n’roll existence ever since. Follow them as they travel from city to city, staying in bad motels, offending waitresses, reading aloud Tonya Harding erotic fan fiction, and eating weed to avoid arrest. Their tweets are both hilarious and bizarre (“Writing an opera based on cellphone brickbreaker” and “I just stood behind a shower curtain while jose took a shit. I’m never letting go of his hand” are just two examples), not to mention full of potty humor and pop culture commentary (“All the girls in ny look like they think they are just about to meet mr big. If he was real he would cheat, tip bad, and have body issues”). Look out for Twitpics of Nirvana fan mail from 1992 and the Dead Weather’s Hasidic sound crew.

    Best Tweet of the Week:: “i think i just described us as ‘half band, half pauly shore’??”
