3-D animated tots aren’t exactly the first thing that jump to mind when one thinks about Pharrell. Try the three Bs: beats, bikini-clad babes, and Bathing Ape designer shoes. But, hey, the N.E.R.D. man has a young son — and you have to entertain the little buggers somehow, right?

Pharrell recorded a track for the soundtrack to Despicable Me, a new animated flick starring The Office‘s Steve Carell, and it just dropped online. Listen to “Fun, Fun, Fun” over at Star Trak Music.

What do we learn here? No matter his audience, ballers or babies, Pharrell knows his way around a hook, and like its title, the song is straight up fun. It rides on a steady backbeat with acoustic guitar, rising synths, horns, and his kick-to-the-crotch vocals. And the lyrics are tailored for the lil’ ones: “No more homework or PTA / No more teachers and principals,” he croons. Summer break!

Despicable Me opens today.
