Terrific Twitter Trio of the Week

100610-twitter-main.jpg

Lots of musicians tweet — but all that Twitters is not gold.

That’s why you’ll want to check out SPIN.com every Friday to see whose tweets we’re reading this week — then update your TweetDeck! (Obligatory Self-Promotion: While you’re at it, be sure to follow @SPINmagazine!)

  • La Roux
    @larouxofficial

    Why You Should Follow: Elly Jackson – otherwise known as the stylish, androgynous face of British electropop duo La Roux – isn’t a fan of Twitter. In fact, she once praised non-tweeting artists like Prince and David Bowie for choosing to keep their “intrigue and mystery” instead. Still, who can blame her for wanting to document her amusement park ride of a life? Her Twitter page – which also serves the micro-blogging needs of band member Ben Langmaid – is full of tales of concerts in Paris, road trips through Texas, hanging out with the Talking Heads’ David Byrne, and living life as a “singer by night, car salesman/pimp by day.” Interestingly enough, by giving us just a taste of her world – and not a drop more than that – Jackson manages to tweet and keep her intrigue and mystery.

    Best Tweet of the Week: “Thank you to everyone who does understand and hasn’t said fuck off a hundred times on facebook,” after announcing that an upcoming appearance in Southampton, England, has to be cancelled due to a prior promotional commitment.

  • Ryan Adams
    @TheRyanAdams

    Why You Should Follow: After several months away from Twitter – during which time he deleted all of his older tweets – Ryan Adams is back and just as witty and quirky as ever. The singer-songwriter – who released a sci-fi metal concept album called Orion last month – hasn’t tweeted much since his return, but one can only hope he’ll get right back into the habit. Expect lots of talk of robots (“What if Twitter is just a robotic thought collecting agent sending direct human data to an evil robot mainframe to educate the WarriorBots?”), fantasy films (“Kull the Conquerer is on… I agree this is one of the best movies of the last twenty years but what do I know”), and bodily functions (“Was super gassy yesterday”). You might also get the occasional slamming of hands on the keyboard (“lmaopfiomfospo[“) and re-tweets from Slayer and NASA.

    Best Tweet of the Week: “Sex and the City 2…That was a lot of outfits…My eyeballs feel violated”

  • tUnE-yArDs
    @tuneyards

    Why You Should Follow: This experimental folk-meets-Afropop singer – otherwise known as Merrill Garbus – heated things up at the third annual Roots Picnic in Philadelphia this past weekend. As she wrote in a recent Twitter update, “you know you’ve made it when questlove starts following your tweets.” Follow her as she tackles tax deadlines and tour dates, eats vegetarian haggis and “psych jams,” and cries over hearing her music played on NPR.

    Best Tweet of the Week: “I played coffee can on this track,” in reference to the song “Wrecking Ball” by alt-country singer Chris Pureka.
