Reunited grunge quartet Soundgarden played their first concert in over 13 years on April 16 at Seattle’s Showbox to 1,100 lucky fans. For the masses who couldn’t be there, the band just released live performance video of their classic tune “Beyond the Wheel” from that night’s show. Watch below!

Billed as the NudeDragons (an anagram of “Soundgarden”), the band ripped through the heavy, grit-nasty track off their 1988 debut Ultramega OK — and it sounds perfect. Guitarist Kim Thayil blasted a tangle of metal riffs, and bassist Ben Shepherd and drummer Matt Cameron — a member of Pearl Jam since Soundgarden’s 1998 split — drove a fearsome rumble like they were signaling Armageddon. The term “grunge” was coined for songs like this.

As reported by SPIN contributor Travis Ritter, longtime fans were desperate to buy scalped tickets to the sold-out gig, waving signs out front of the downtown Seattle venue that read, “Name your price.” Some even speculated that a few fans got in by bribing the club’s bouncers for $2500 in order to join Mark Arm and Matt Lukin of Mudhoney, ex-Shins member Dave Hernandez, Sub Pop co-founder Jonathan Poneman, photographer Charles Peterson, Built to Spill drummer Scott Plouf, and Exene Cervenka of Los Angeles punk legends X inside the venue.
