EXCLUSIVE: New Japandroids Song!

Guitar-and-drums duo Japandroids are on a roll. After touring relentlessly behind their SPIN-approved 2009 debut Post-Nothing, the band is back with a new 7″ single called Art Czars — and SPIN is exclusively streaming its B-side, “Racer-X.”

The song was originally released by Illinois noise-punk band Big Black in 1984. For their cover version, the Japandroids up the original’s tempo and intensity, resulting in an explosion of fuzzed-out guitar and jack-hammer drum beats.

Art Czars is the first of five 7″ singles Japandroids will release this year, each of which will include one unreleased song from the Post-Nothing sessions, plus one cover song. SPIN debuted Art Czars earlier this year, and you can order the 7″ on the band’s official website.

Japandroids have been a SPIN favorite since Post-Nothing, which was named No. 16 in our list of the Top 40 Albums of 2009. We were equally impressed with their set at last month’s SXSW, crowning it one of the best of the fest. Catch ’em on their nationwide tour this summer.

Listen to “Racer-X” below, then tell us what you think in the comment section.
