Terrific Twitter Trio of the Week

100329-twitter-trio.jpg

Lots of people tweet — but all that Twitters is not gold.

That’s why you’ll want to check out SPIN.com every Friday to see whose tweets we’re reading this week — then update your TweetDeck! (Obligatory Self-Promotion: …while you’re at it, be sure to follow @SPINmagazine!)

This week’s winners:

  • Pete Yorn
    @peteyorn

    Why You Should Follow: Yorn — who recently collaborated with Scarlett Johansson on Break Up and is currently working on a new album — uses his Twitter as an online forum to communicate with fans. He encourages discussion among his followers, posing questions like “Who do you think is going to win the NCAA Tournament?” and “Who here is a fan of the band Phish?” He also pushes them to think creatively, posting inspirational lyrics and offering prizes for the best fan-created video for his single “Paradise Cove.” Expect frequent updates on Yorn’s musical ventures, requests to “re-tweet please,” and random thoughts about everything from the Tiger Woods sex scandal to the reality show Keeping up with the Kardashians.

    Best Tweet of the Week: “I couldn’t love belle and Sebastian seeing other people any more than I do right now in headphones in the dark.”

  • Neon Indian
    @NeonIndian

    Why You Should Follow: Alan Palomo, the brainchild behind Neon Indian, describes himself in his Twitter bio as “a wiley Mexican by way of Texas, by way of Brooklyn, who deals in synth.” He tweets about narrowly escaping house fires, feeling “sea-addled,” naming strands of weed, and watching UFOs over Hollywood Hills. All he’s looking for is the right lady (“oh school of record-obsessed, collegiate mod women, where hast thou gone?! Are you all married or just ‘don’t get out much these days’?”) — or maybe just the perfect slice of Brooklyn pizza. Follow him as he searches for both — and plays a few shows along the way.

    Best Tweet of the Week: “Fuck it. We’re going to Mexico.”

  • Rogue Wave
    @roguewaveband

    Why You Should Follow:Life on the road isn’t easy, but California-based indie-pop band Rogue Wave seems to embrace even the worst tour disasters: “How does one play a show when your bass player has food poisoning? Got about 30 minutes to figure it out”. Of course, they’ve got a lot to be happy about — they just released their fourth studio album, Permalight, and appeared in the romantic drama Love Happens alongside a certain Hollywood megastar (“Ever thought you’d hear Jennifer Aniston say the words ‘rogue’ and ‘wave’ in succession?”). When they’re not traveling from city to city, grabbing vegan dinners with Yo La Tengo or trying desperately to avoid “the most depressing place in America” (Guitar Center), they’re posting Twitpics of themselves in Iron Man masks and discussing their favorite ’80s songwriters. Bonus points: They often re-tweet and answer questions from fans!

    Best Tweet of the Week: “one easy thing: playing a song on jimmy fallon. one hard thing: playing a song for real on fallon with the roots watching”
