Insert perfunctory “I Kissed a Girl” joke here: pop starlet Katy Perry and foul-mouthed Brit comedian Russell Brand are engaged to be married, Us Weekly reports.
Brand, 34, popped the question to Perry, 25, five days ago while the couple were on vacation in Jaipur, India. The engagement comes just months after the couple met in September at MTV’s Video Music Awards, which Brand hosted, and began dating.
According to Us Weekly’s source, the trip was Brand’s Christmas gift to Perry. “She told him how much she loved Indian culture while they were eating curry in England, so he surprised her,” a Perry “insider” said.
The couple has been documenting their trip on Twitter, Perry’s preferred medium of communication, where she occasionally posts semi-scandalous pictures of herself eating pizza in the nude.
The pop singer recently posted a shot of her and Brand posing in front of the Taj Mahal, along with this cute caption about her fiancé: “He built this for me,” she wrote. Awww… On New Year’s Day, she posted a pic of her hand covered in a henna tattoo, as well as this little tidbit: “In India, the motto is you gotta go with the flow.”
While neither Brand nor Perry have made an official announcement, they each have a busy year planned: The Santa Barbara, CA-born songstress is working on a new album, her follow-up to 2008’s One of the Boys, and Brand, well, it seems he’s looking to reproduce: “I do want to have children,” he recently told the NY Daily News.
