Them Crooked Vultures to Record More Albums

Good news for hard rock fans: Them Crooked Vultures, the new supergroup featuring Dave Grohl on drums, Queen of the Stone Age Josh Homme, and Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones, has plans to record a lot more material.

“You put the three of us together in a room [and] something is going to happen,” Dave Grohl told the BBC. “I don’t think we’ll have any trouble making five, six, seven records… It’s just a matter of when and where and how.”

The ex-Nirvana sticksman added that the group have leftover songs from the sessions for their self-titled debut, and that Them Crooked Vultures would be a longtime project alongside his main band Foo Fighters. “I wouldn’t want to stop doing it,” he explained of playing with Homme and Jones. “It’s a fun band to be in.”

The news should come as both a treat and a surprise to longtime Grohl fans. Since Nirvana’s split, the 40-year-old rocker has returned to the drums only twice — he played on QOTSA’s 2002 release Songs for the Deaf and formed a one-off metal supergroup called Probot, featuring guest frontmen like Motorhead’s Lemmy. But Them Crooked Vultures is the first time he’s found a more permanent home behind the skins.

And let us remind you that the dude is a human jackhammer. Just check out live videos of TCV thundering through “Elephants” and “Dead End Friends” for a little evidence.

But this doesn’t mean the end for Foo Fighters. The quartet just released a greatest hits album, including two brand new songs, and Grohl says there will be a new record “at some point — definitely.”

So, SPIN readers, where do you prefer Grohl: singing and playing guitar with Foo Fighters… or crushing the drums with the Vultures? Tell us in the comment section.
