After a decade-long absence, Lilith Fair — the traveling, female-forward festival — will return in 2010! The initial lineup was just announced, and while it features not-so-surprising vets like Indigo Girls and Lilith Fair co-founder Sarah McLachlan, there’s also plenty to be excited about!
Metric, Tegan and Sara, Erykah Badu, Mary J. Blige, Sheryl Crow, Chairlift, Janelle Monae, the Submarines, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Emmylou Harris, Corinne Bailey Rae, Sara Bareilles, and Katzenjammer all highlight the bill. Oh, and gun-toting country star Miranda Lambert.
Check out the complete initial lineup at Lilith Fair‘s official site. More acts will be announced soon.
“Sara and I played one of the last Lilith Fair shows ever 10 years ago in Edmonton, Alberta,” Tegan Quin of Tegan and Sara said a statement. “We only played one show and it was on the smallest stage, in the rain, to nearly no one.”
“And yet, for the past 10 years, it continues to come up in almost every interview and is something we honestly look back on as a very important event in our career,” she added. “The impact of Lilith Fair was felt all over the world, and its significance still resonates with women and the music industry itself 10 years later. We are proud to be a part of it again and are truly excited that Lilith is back.”
Adds Caroline Polachek of Chairlift: “It seemed to me that when the first Lilith Fair hit in the ’90s, it brought back a kind of ’70s feminist mentality. This time around in 2010, Lilith has that same 20-year evocative relation with the ’90s. We’re all psyched to represent, if not as a ‘girl group’ (which we don’t particularly consider ourselves, being two-thirds male), for the spirit of the playful and mysterious women of the new decade.”
Complete dates have yet to be announced, but Lilith Fair will touch down in the following cities — with McLachlan undoubtedly playing “Angel” every single night:
Los Angeles, CA
New York, NY
San Francisco, CA
