Marilyn Manson: “I’m Back with Evan Rachel Wood”
Plus: the shock rocker talks about his "badass" new music.
When it comes to love, Marilyn Manson is a complicated man.
Last Spring in a juicy interview with SPIN.com, the shock rocker detailed his failed relationship with 22-year-old actress Evan Rachel Wood, which left him, um, a bit angry and depressed. “I have fantasies every day about smashing her skull in with a sledgehammer,” he said. Guess what? Now they’re back together. Hey, the guy knows what a woman wants to hear. Awwwww…
Manson explained his change of heart to Metal Hammer:
“I think I’m not afraid to be me. Sometimes you feel awkward being what you’re best at, you feel like you have to be something new. But I think that a lot of people will agree that me being me at my best [is what] I need to be. I think that that really paid off because I’m back with Evan.”
But the interview wasn’t all about love. Manson also dished on his newfound creative freedom — and his “badass” new music.
“We’ve just been released from our record contract with Interscope so I think a lot of the creative control on which my hands were tied [is now free],” he explained. “At least half of my creative output has been squashed, so now I think people can expect a whole lot more.”
And fans can expect the new tunes to be heavy… in more than one way: “It will be more badass; it’s going to be more romantic. Self abusive,” he explained of his new music, the first since the release of his SPIN-praised 2009 album The High End of Low. “We started writing new songs on the road — a bit like [David Bowie’s album] ‘Aladdin Sane.’ I think people can expect a new record a lot sooner than we [expected].”
