Terrific Twitter Trio of the Week

Lots of musicians tweet — but all that Twitters is not gold.

That’s why you’ll want to check out every Friday to see whose tweets we’re reading this week — then update your TweetDeck! (Obligatory Self-Promotion: …while you’re at it, be sure to follow @SPINmagazine!)

This week’s winners:

Who: Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst (@freddurst)

Why You Should Follow: Limp Bizkit fans, rejoice! Frontman Fred Durst doesn’t just tweet — he answers questions, gives shout-outs to particularly dedicated followers, and invites anyone and everyone to add him on Skype (username: “mrfreddurst”) and play Xbox Live with him. When he’s not interacting with fans (and @peeweeherman, weirdly enough), Durst uses Twitter as his own personal video blog, posting Twitvids of failed cooking adventures and his son’s adorable poolside antics. Now that he and the rest of the Limp Bizkit gang are recording their first studio album since 2000’s Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water, look out for behind-the-scenes tweets from the studio.
Best Tweet of the Week: “Did somebone say it’s beer thirty?”

Who: Dead Man’s Bones (@deadmansbones)

Why You Should Follow: A collaboration between actors Ryan Gosling and Zach Shields, Dead Man’s Bones is a goth-folk outfit with a sense of humor (one of the songs on their upcoming album is called “My Body’s a Zombie for You”). Their tweets are just as darkly whimsical as their music: they post Twitpics of random people they encounter, from puppet makers to pirates, and write about dragons, unicorns, magicians, and everything in between. Other recent tweets include one very bad pick-up line: “Hey girl, you smell like you’re wearing a perfume that God made for you called ‘God.'”Best Tweet of the Week: This picture, uncaptioned, of a parking lot attendant lit by a mystical-seeming glow. Pretty typical for Gosling and Shields.

Who: The Like (@ilovethelike)

Why You Should Follow: Four cute girls, one Twitter page, and lots of acerbic wit — why wouldn’t you want to follow? The ladies of The Like are talented, stylish, and wickedly funny. Expect lots of deep, philosophical pondering (“Is there an apostrophe in ‘ho’?” “Do aliens have ass-cracks?”), Twitpics of bowling outfits and leg-shaving wounds, and stories of rodeos, hallucinations, and watching Spice World with the Arctic Monkeys. Bonus points: They’ve invented their own Twitter term — “twirting,” or flirting via tweet!
Best Tweet of the Week: “Anyone ever notice how R. Kelly starts off Trapped in the Closet with ‘7 o clock in the morning and the RAYS of the sun WAKES me’… Amazing”
