Beastie Boys: Rarities, Bonus Songs on ‘Hello Nasty’ Reissue

The New York trio unearth 10 never-before-heard songs or skits for a deluxe repackaging of their 1998 classic.

While the Beastie Boys’ new album Hot Sauce Committee Part 1 is in limbo while Adam “MCA” Yauch undergoes treatment for a cancerous tumor, the New York trio continue to reissue their classic albums with extras galore. The latest installment: a deluxe edition of the trio’s 1998 release Hello Nasty, complete with 21 bonus tracks and rarities, out September 22.

The reissue, which follows souped-up editions of Paul’s Boutique, Licensed to Ill, Check Your Head, and Ill Communication, arrives in four formats: digital download, double CD, double vinyl, and a collector’s vinyl package featuring four 180-gram LPs in a gatefold “coffee table book” case.

The limited edition package — only 1,500 copies! — even features a Hello Nasty patch. Tip for students: sew it to your Jansport backpack, then, in true Beasties fashion, throw eggs at people from your dorm room window. Pre-order for the album starts today at the Boys’ website.

As you may recall, the Boys had a busy spring and summer preparing for the planned, but ultimately dashed, September release of Hot Sauce Committee: the rabble rousers busted Jimmy Fallon’s chops, telling the ex-SNL star they recorded their album on Microsoft bigwig Paul Allen’s “mega-liner” yacht, and rocked Bonnaroo with guest emcee Nas.

While the Grammy Award-winning, seven-million-selling reissue is surely packed with goodies and definitely ranks in classic status (“Remote Controllllllllllllllllll!!!!!!!!”), here’s wishing MCA a big “get better soon.” If leaked Hot Sauce track “Lee Majors Come Again” is any indication, the Beastie Boys, even in their 40s, still have that sniveling, wild punk ‘tude and unbridled talented — there’s a lot to look forward to.
