The cover art for Eminem’s long-awaited comeback album, Relapse, has been unveiled — or should we say prescribed?
The cover, posted to Em’s Twitter feed yesterday, is a mosaic of various-colored pills that join together to form the pasty hip-hop star’s face — and the prescription-drug references don’t stop there. A faux medicine bottle label affixed to its lower-left corner states, “Prescribed by Dr. Dre,” with Relapse‘s May 19 release date as the time for a “Refill.”
It bears more than a slight resemblance to the cover of T.I.’s 2008 album Paper Trail — which isn’t entirely surprising, since Em recently expressed his respect for T.I. while discussing the state of hip-hop with XXL:
“Without naming any names, it just felt like hip-hop was going downhill. And it seemed fast…But with this new T.I. album, with this new Lil Wayne album of recent, it seems like things are looking a lot better now,” he said. “[When you hear] T.I. you’re like, ‘Whoa, ah, I wish I would have thought of that!'”
Fans wondering what Slim Shady is up to next should tune into his Sirius Radio show, Shade 45, tomorrow morning. On his Twitter, Em is advising fans to “listen carefully” to the show for a surprise.
One subject you can bet that Eminem won’t be addressing on the show is the recent arrest of his younger brother, Nathan Kane Mathers. Mathers, 23, was collared on DUI charges last Wednesday in Macomb Township, MI, after he failed to pull to the side of the road for a passing ambulance. This isn’t the first time that Em’s younger bro has “cracked a bottle” while on the road — in January, he was arrested for operating a vehicle while impaired. [Via Macomb Township]
