2009 will be a busy year for U2: The quartet just released their latest album, No Line on the Horizon, are planning to drop another by year’s end — and are now preparing for a world tour!

“We’re very excited about the idea to go on the road with this album,” U2 guitarist the Edge told Billboard.com of the quartet’s upcoming outing, called “Kiss the Future,” which will kick off in the U.S. September 12 at Chicago, IL’s Soldier Field and run until Oct. 28. “It’s an album I think is going to translate well to the live context. The songs we’ve tried in rehearsal are sounding fantastic, so that’s got everyone really fired up.”

U2 have planned an extravagant production, including a circular stage in the middle of each venue, allowing fans 360-degree viewing, and a cylindrical video screen. Their tour will begin in Europe this summer and is expected to extend through fall 2010.

“This is going to be completely different, and that’s what makes itexciting,” the Edge added. “For aband like U2 that really thrive on breaking new ground, it’s a realthrill.”

But no matter where their world tour takes them, expect Bono and the Edge to swing into New York City next February for the debut of their new musical, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.
