For his third album, Quentin “Mr. Oizo” Dupieux rapaciously chops disco classics into two-minute mini-beats (“Positif,” “Bruce Willis Is Dead”) or debauched club-kid romps (“Two Takes It,” with saucy rapper Carmen Castro). And though his cut-up aesthetic may recall ’90s house kingpins Kenny Dope and Junior Vasquez, he takes Lambs Anger‘s used parts and remodels them, compressing keyboard sounds and looped samples into a sci-fi party mix. Mr. Oizo may be an old-school house head, but he creates a sweaty, gleefully claustrophobic dance workout that celebrates the current electro-funk renaissance.
