The (international) Noise Conspiracy, ‘The Cross of My Calling’ (Vagrant/American)

Their sound is a fizzy old-style brew of hard rock, psychedelia, and pop punk. Sometimes they nod to the Doors, and the drummer is clearly obsessed with Keith Moon. But don’t call these noisy Swedes a nostalgia act. Reuniting with producer Rick Rubin, whose low-gloss production emphasizes the quartet’s adrenaline rush, the Conspiracy unleash a barrage of topical bulletins such as “Washington Bullets” and “Storm the Gates of Beverly Hills,” with excitable frontman Dennis Lyxzén playing town crier. When he shouts, “I’m gonna explode!” prepare to duck and cover.
